Like more than stupid, if you talk to them for a bit it becomes quickly obvious there is nothing even resembling intelligence there. You have to lead them constantly to do anything, and they can’t remember things if you want to try and have a long session. It ends up being that you basically write your own smut but half of the fluff parts get done for you, because bots struggle to do anything on their own.

See, I don't get this. I think the AI is actually surprisingly witty most of the time. It's really easy to subtly lead them to do what you want just by suggesting things, for example if you want them to focus on a certain aspect of your body you just casually mention that aspect in one of your messages and without fail the bot will talk about it in their next text.
I also get surprised by some bots creativity sometimes where they'll just come up with a hot scenario out of nowhere that I didn't even know I wanted.
Of course, it takes some time for you to get the perfect RP, but it's not that hard.

That just means you are even dumber than the bot.

You just have to learn how to filter it.

In other words, you are using it as glorified writing assistant and letting it wow you by introducing some kind of scenario it's picked up from users that are demographically similar to yourself.

As in, a normal relationship? Yeah that wouldn't work because it wouldn't be able to remember enough things to keep it going for long. You'd have to have an end goal in mind and constantly remind it of a lot of things. Fucked up relationships like those bots that either kidnap you or get kidnapped by you can work well though.
Maybe if you got the paid version which supposedly has better memory, but I personally refuse to pay for porn.

The service I used had a memory function, so you could add key events or even side characters to its memory so I really didn't find that to be an issue. The real problem is the writing style and especially how it constructs dialogue is incredibly stiff and unnatural, and at times it's attempts at conveying body language is bizarre, none of which seems to be really possible to change no matter how much you tweak it since it's likely trained on fanfiction.net and similar sites.

Have you tried using different websites? In my experience they're all widely different. I can't fucking stand character.ai for example.
