i think harris completely gave up on retaining muslim voters in michigan, despite them being an incredibly favorable and incredibly important demographic for her, in order to chase nonexistent nikki haley voters. i think this bungle was representative of her broader campaign strategy. muslim voters saving michigan for her would not have been enough to flip the national election, but she was treating the entire base like that.
also on a hunch i looked this up, and "uncommitted" votes in the democratic primary were higher than the trump-harris vote gap in the general not just in michigan but also in wisconsin. that's two states that harris clearly fucked up.
pennsylvania didn't have the uncommitted option, but dean phillips plus write-ins also just barely beats the general election gap. we can't assume harris gets all of those votes but she could've made the race much tighter.
