That's not why you're renting your very housing from someone else. You don't build wealth by actively working for it and renting basic necessities from others when the vast majority of it will come from passively making money off things you own. Even if you do take out a mortgage (which you should if you do have that much,) you put a portion of it down, borrow the rest at like 3-6% interest, and ideally invest the rest in private equity so you can make 8%+ returns. Mortgage interests on primary residences are (at least partially) tax-deductible, as are interests on loans against investment properties; you can even deduct more by putting money into LLCs and deducting even more than that as a business asset. Mortgaged properties, LLCs, and shell companies are limited in liability and very hard for creditors to seize even if you get into trouble, which you shouldn’t since you’d have a glass floor at that point. You don’t rent when you can own, and you don’t own when you can only put a portion down and borrow against your properties.
