How do you do my fellow tranners? I hate the theyfabs too! Don't you think we should end informed consent and go back to gatekeeping?

I don't have any evidence one way or the other, but I think it's informed consent that made HRT so much more accessible. DIY is stuff I only learned about on Anon Babble and there's a lot of fearmongering and censorship about it, whereas informed consent is institutionalized and many people only know about getting HRT through that or the medical system in general.

I'm not advocating anything one way or the other. Just that the fact that a great number of people started transitioning more and the fact that conservatives in the US manufactured lots of attention to it after gay marriage was legalized and they needed a new group to demonize, and those trans people who fulfilled negative stereotypes were easy to make propaganda of, is probably how we got to where we are.

What is the difference? Some amount of rapey behavior? Because I thought a rapehon was a derogatory way to refer to an ugly hon who doesn't pass and never will pass due to their late age of transition or unlucky genetics and has a beard and untrained male voice, and that the "rape" part was just like that because they assume all non-passers are rapist men.

Yeah? Conservatives have been making bathroom bills since at least 2016, right after Obergefell v. Hodges, and back then that actually induced a successful boycott of North Carolina because of it. Conservative media has been raising scares about it and Republicans have been pushing political ads about scary trans people since then.

Well, in 2008 I was still a young child, so I can't really counter that with any experiences I remember. Was Twitter not still new back then, though? I think conservatives have things shoved in their faces mostly by conservative media, and their main engagement with trans people is through Fox News and cringe compilations and Libs of TikTok type stuff and YouTube videos that depict them poorly. I live in a very blue area and the most I ever see or hear of trans people is the occasional person with a pronoun pin or the trans or rainbow flag on Trans Day of Rememberance, that kind of thing.

Before twitter it was facebook and tumblr. It's all the same retards, they just move platforms like rats.

You could be right - this is more of a historical question at this point, because we'd have to trawl written and online records of the motivations of Republican politicians and media figures - but it seems more likely to me that trans people and trans spaces have always been the same, but that the fact that they became more prominent because of conservatives explicitly targeting them just seems more plausible to me than that conservatives started targeting them because they kept encountering some Tumblr blogs.

I was there man, I saw it happen.
