There were a lot of young boomers who had the same sentiment towards long hair on men and were raised with these beliefs. Not all boomers are like this but this is still a thing. Not all boomers vote republican but most boomer republican voters think like this. People were against boys having long hair because it was seen as feminine. The idea of a male showing any sense of femininity is seen as scandalous, even today. Society is slowly warming up to femininity in males but being trans is a much larger step than long hair.
