Japan's only real experience with recreational drugs (other than alcohol) is meth. There was a terrible epidemic of meth abuse in Japan after WWII. And then the US came along after the war and told Japan that weed is just as bad as that.
Because of the strict drug laws, societal reluctance to even discuss such things, and the difficulty of importing substances into the country, even today, Japan still tends to view weed as a drug that's just as bad as heroin, meth, crack, etc.
You should. My vocabulary and speaking skills are improving, and I’m not even reading anything pseud. The expanded vocabulary helps me express myself more easily. My coworkers notice and we giggle how I’m a studious ass foo now. It gives me more to talk about with my coworkers and customers, helps me think about different topics (history, philosophy, feminism, nature, etc.). Been really good for my mental health too, I think.
