because it is a sticky situation. people who are progressive live in constant fear of being racist or transphobic and that's a good thing. she is trying to reconcile her own feelings with her moral beliefs, and seeking help and input from others. this is a healthy and human thing to do.
at the end of day, its perfectly normal to feel bad about your gender being ambiguous or being questioned. In today's modern age there are many, especially chuds, who know how much it triggers women and so do it on purpose as a way of insulting them and calling them a man while also 'triggering the libs' with their own language. My cis f friend gets called a tranny constantly on counterstrike if she talks and she is literally in a female choir and has a beautiful voice.
