I gave this its own reply because what I meant by electronica is not electronic music in general, but a specific scene. I asked ChatGPT to break this down:

While "electronic music" is a broad term encompassing music created using electronic instruments and technology, "electronica" is a more specific term often used to describe a variety of electronic genres, particularly those with a focus on dance music and electronic sounds.

Can include genres like downtempo, intelligent dance music, electronic dance music, techno, house, drum and bass, and trance.

In the 1990s and early 2000s, "electronica" was used as a catch-all term in marketing and journalism for popular melodic and rhythmic dance music.

While electronic music encompasses a wide range, electronica is more often associated with music intended for dancing and concentrated listening.

tl;dr I would rather listen to something like ebm, deep house, tribal house, ambient techno, sambass, jazzstep, downtempo, idm, electro, jungle, trip hop, or breakbeat than pure edm, pure ambient, pure techno, minimal techno, pure trance, dubstep, drone, vaporwave, synthwave, electroacoustic, progressive electronic, minimal wave, etc.

big ups for boards of canada & the flcl soundtrack, such a shame the pillows didn't make any good songs outside it

QOTT

Not super duper unless it’s Jawbreaker, but there’s a lot of emo-inspirations/adjacent i like like Husker Du and a lot of 80s post-hardcore, My Vitriol and some other Britrock-y bands, etc.

QOTT2

Unironically psychobilly/gothabilly, I dressed like Rowland S Howard in manmode for a while.
Really love that charly album but im a drought when it comes to those genres sorry :(

picrel is my march 5x5
akito!! i’ve been waiting for a return of /mugen/!!

qott1

can’t say i’m a fan of emocore, just pop-emo type stuff. i like some stuff that a lot of people call midwest emo, but i also don’t think it really fits that genre anyway (think mom jeans, modern baseball, origami angel, all of which are pretty coastal and also don’t really sound like “real midwest emo” imo). i guess my favorite wave is probably 4th? i’m never quite sure which bands are 4th vs. 5th though. and for people who view “mall emo” like fall out boy and mcr as 3rd wave, i love a lot of. ands from that wave too

qott2

i guess modern diy emo? i’ve always kinda liked emo fashion, and going to shows for smaller diy bands like harrison gordon, summerbruise, and riley is always a treat. i even “attended” diy discord fest a few years back which was a blast

i think the other day there was a poptimism /mugen/ and i made an appearance there :)
pop-emo and midwest emo are good i think, i think mobo is the only real "midwest emo" sounding band on there.
i'd say 4th/revival is stuff like mobo and mom jeans, but origami angel is 5th wave iirc
how have you been ? ^_^

Yay it's me again. Nothing crazy. That STP album is cool, that Perturbator album is a masterpiece, Pennyroyal Tea is my new favorite Nirvana tune, Ohms is cool.

All I really know on this is BoC, so can't really guess, great album though (:

Hmmmm, lots of rock, nice seeing MCR and Nirvana, I'm guessing poonchad.

QOTT2

Would probably have to be either IDM or Tracker subcultures, both pretty small and i'm not very deep in them but they've got some great vibes and lovely aesthetics imo.

objectively good shit
1/2

what i'm abt to say is gonna come off as hugbox-y probs but theres no such thing as male/fembrained.

system thinks im spamming for whatev rzn so here's the rest:
that shit is just repackaged gender norms for trans people. no one normal will judge you for what you like outside of "eww thats so nerdy lmfao." given that its not some shit like snuff or wtvr.
anyways, what im trying to say is that you should find peace with your interests and yourself. after all, you have to live with yourself forever. there no point in suppressing yourself to appease the people around you.
maybe this is easy for me to say bc im "gigafembrained" or some shit.

74.jpg - 850x1237, 407.23K

no you're right in a way and I usually don't think about male/fembrained stuff but that stuff is very obviously made for men so it feels weird to like it idk

no igwym
im really into like fashion and a bunch of stereotypical girly shit, but like i also know cis girls into that kind of stuff.
keep your head up anon :) i bet you're a really pretty girl.

I forgot questions

QOTT1

I don't know what emocore is, unless it's just normal emo.
Either way the only remotely emo things I like are Title Fight, and "The Ghost of You" by MCR (if that counts as emo) and "Never meant" by American Football. I really just wish they sang better. I know the whole thing with midwest emo is sounding honest instead of actual vocal talent but I just don't like the vocals lol.

QOTT2

Grunge/Metalhead. I've been thinking of just going full alt lately desu. I look like a normie aside from my spiky dark blond hair which looks somewhat grungy??? idk

hello :3
Did you check any of my recs out yet? I'm the Alice in Chains and Iron Maiden guy

memories of "faggot nightcore" by mindless self indulgence

hello yes!!!! im currently going thru them all. what's playing rn is actually the wall :) i like it so far!
also fair enough on not like the "emo voice" lol, title fight is really good :) and never meant shaped midwest emo. anyways, emocore is shit like rites of spring and moss icon (at least those are the two obvious choices). maybe check those two out?

61.jpg - 408x408, 26.92K

I'll keep those in mind! I used to kinda bash emo music for the crime of being a bit cringe but I'm warming up to it.

Unrelated: Just blasted picrel and it fucking rips. Some of the meanest death growls I have heard. I don't get if the robot is supposed to be heiling or something but the album cover goes hard.

Did you listen to emotional hardcore and emocore or midwest emo and emo-pop? Because the last two hardly count as real emo. The further away it can ge from the post-hardcore roots, the less emo it gets. Listen to some Rites of Spring, Embrace, Moss Icon, Indian Summer, Dag Nasty, One Last Wish, Fine Before You Came, Hot Water Music, One Step Closer, 1000 Travels of Jawaharlal, Boysetsfire, Heroin, Lifetime, Gray Matter, Jawbox, Rain, Gazebo Penguins, Sleepytime Trio, Don Martin Three, Turning Point, The Hated, 3, Split Lip, Bob Tilton, Verme, Antioch Arrow, The Pine, End of a Year, Twelve Hour Turn, Admiral, Ampere, Sinoloa, As Friends Rust, Samiam, Falling Forward, Silver Bearing, Vanilla, Amber Inn, Praise, Current, Rights Reserved, Astrid Lindgren, Lincoln, Ordination of Aaron, Soul Side, Bread and Circuits, Admiral, Hoover, Life at These Speeds, Anxious, Julia, Milkwede, Shroomunion, Do Nascimiento, Christopher Robin, Frail, Flowers of Discipline, Blake, Distanti, Native Nod, etc.
