libertarianism as a whole doesn’t really fit on a left/right scale in that libertarian communism and capitalism both exist. but in practice, most libertarians, especially in the US, are in favor of the continuance of capitalism. of course, defining left and right solely economically is its own thing people disagree on. usually, again especially in america, the left is associated with progressivism and the right with conservatism. in my experience, there’s definitely lots of US libertarians in the “i just want gay married couples to be able to defend their pot plants with ak-47s” camp, which is pretty progressive socially, but there’s also loads of conservatives who call themselves libertarians because they’re anti-government unless the government is banning gay marriage/transition/etc.
