i was devastated when i watched ultimate. the original is all about the atmosphere and her vibing out and mulling things over regarding living forever and eternal night etc. then in ultimate she's just a mix of fanservice and genki comic relief, she's not a character. i think she freaks out and suddenly becomes a badass later on in a fight but i stopped watching before that point

they basically removed her as an actual character until close to the end and cut out a bunch of interesting stuff that gives everything way more depth, just for example when all the Hellsing soldiers get killed in the manor it would have had zero impact on me l if the originals hadn't made them actual characters.
The OVA's really are great to experience if you treat them more like a finale to the original series instead of a standalone thing though. (the last battalion was infinitely cooler than the Incognito bullshit)

They were definitely more cringe than they were funny but I don't think they detract too much since they're so short and only happen a few times. I really don't remember one where Alucard's guns talk though but I might just not remember, it's been a while since my last rewatch.

I like Hellsing Abridged but understand it is a much different thing than Hellsing Ultimate or Hellsing Original.
I did like a few changes they made, mostly getting rid of that god awful techno track that played over the Alucard vs Walter fight in Ultimate and replacing it with Die Fledermaus.
