The end-state of communism is effectively a free-association anarchy state where said free-associations (communes) hold all property in common. This state isn't actually stable because someone eventually decides he can either horde all the wealth and use some of it to pay goons to prevent the people in his commune from leaving or rebelling, or else the commune decides as a whole that they only care about their needs and that it's fine to take resources from other communes. In either case, the end-result is war and conquest, which builds up hierarchies and states. The only way to prevent this is to already have a state, which would enforce communes with military violence. However, this in itself is a hierarchy, and one cannot guarantee said state will remain uncorrupted. All of this to say that the proletariat will never be free.

It's entirely possible to want non-Communist forms of Socialism; to be a statist. National socialism is one, there are others.
National socialism is about having a hybrid between capitalist and socialist systems such that capital is used in common to benefit the nation-as-a-people. Meanwhile, people are free to use the remainder of their earned capital in their own pursuits.

Churches often served as community centers, it's really not fair to a local community to steal resources from their local community center to enrich the central government.
