I did time in a Level 5 (close security aka max security) in Georgia. I only had a 3 year sentence and was in a medium security, got caught with 2 cellphones when they were hardcore cracking down, and got transferred to a level 5 for 6 months. So, by NY's standards, the plaintiff here was obligated to A) Run if it's at all possible, even if that involves somehow dodging the attacker and taking off down the road with him chasing. And B) If it's literally not possible to run, respond only with fists. So the tranny is meant to overpower the big aggressive man here. It would only be acceptable to use a knife in self-defense IF the attacker pulled out a knife first and had already stabbed or attempted to stab them.
