this genre of ftms generally don't pass at all and are grouped in with women by their communities at large, and benefit from that especially in communities like brought up

so i think its sometimes about being very aware that they do not actually pass as men and the dissonance makes them dislike being called that, plus understanding theyre afforded privilege by being not classed as a man

i am an ftm in these spaces who passes (or at least as classed as male even if im clearly not cis) and i get treated like im dangerous/intimidating/pretentious the way men generally are in these spaces and critiqued for enjoying being a man if i indicate that at all, so i understand why they do this out of cope because they see guys like me get treated weirdly and dont want to deal with it. it is really fucking annoying though

I don't even mind being treated as evil and dangerous... But having people nitpick your enjoyment every time is extremely annoying. These will be the same spaces that exclaim about how much they love being AFAB, queer, or a woman (and the whole time they're a theyfab).
Even worse is when cis men are around they don't get heavily critiqued the same way we do. Ftm get excommunicated very quickly for not being the perfect man meanwhile we are all used to the bar being in hell for cis men.

I don't think I have the same thing as this person, but for a while I actually did have reservations about using the term because I had been so relentlessly bullied and abused for "looking like a man," "talking like a man," etc. I still said it because...that is just the word for the thing I am, what am I gonna do, but I definitely felt a sense of shame for a while. "Boy" (when younger), "guy," etc didn't cause the issue.
