ANC won because the liberal west wanted to prove its righteousness after defeating communism. PLO lost because israel is too important to the west to fail so hamas was created as a frustrated reaction. there were also numerous peaceful protests in palestine leading up to oct 7th including the great march of return which saw palestinians slaughtered. oct 7th was similar to the warsaw uprising in that it was a group destined for extermination lashing out in a desperate attempt to secure any hope at all. hamas also intended oct 7th to be a political move that could get palestinian prisoners released and didnt expect that the entire western world would let them be bombed into nonexistence. it's a miscalculation but also one on a much larger inter-societal scale and the intra-societal oppression that characterizes transphobia and other civil rights issues.

the deciders of the CRA mostly weren’t voted in on the basis that they’d enact a civil rights act, and those who were probably weren’t going to. there’s no real democratic process taking place in that instance aside from the democracy of mass resistance. idk how this weird savior narrative has stuck around so long when the FBI was assassinating leaders en masse. ofc it wasn’t all violent resistance (easy example is the free breakfast program) but near all resistance was violently repressed. the fact that the selma to montgomery march happened with police consent and gov’t-made signs kinda shows how cooperation leads to recuperation real fast.
