crying as an evolutionary function is used as a social cue to signal distress that you need help to your peers and social group. men are expected to be the problem solvers and the ones to come to the aid of others (namely women and children) when they need help. crying and broadcasting that you are in distress to others is a display of weakness and a signal that you are unable to handle the current situation. both of those are a death knell to being seen as a real man of worth to women and other men, so men don't do it.
