I think the de-transers are just a natural consequences of tranny grooming efforts in the 2010s. If trannies had just said "let us live" there would be no substantive de-trans movement, but instead they said "we're gonna trans your kids" and now there are a bunch of people getting older and realizing that they were bamboozled!
In other words: for actual trannies it is a stable, unchangeable identity. But because they groomed so many non-trannies into transition de-transers were inevitable.
Really though it was never the trannies. The entire meme cult of neotrannies came about because shitposters lost easy gets on tumblr after the Romney/Obama election season.
