There are always backlashes towards civil rights this has happened black rights and feminism too. After stonewall gay rights were on the upswing both politically and culturally. Then the 80s and the Reagan era and aids happened and attitudes and rights towards gays were on the downswing. But then the 90s happened and they were on the upswing again.
