i think because of the adipocyte overflow hypothesis there's a sweet spot where all the adipocyte precursors in the gluteofemoral depot have differentiated and are filled to pretty much their capacity but there isn't the large expansion of the visceral and abdominal subcutaneous depots that would happen if you kept increasing adiposity
